Oddities

A propósito de canções improváveis, lembrei-me da cover de “Baby, I Love You” - um original do inefável Phil Spector, lançado pelas The Ronettes em 1964 - por uma das minhas bandas de referência, os Ramones. Foi em 1980, lançado como single do álbum “End of The Century”. O mais curioso é que a versão dos Ramones foi produzida pelo próprio Spector. Aqui está ela. E aqui a versão original.

Incompatibilidades

Constatação do dia: é praticamente impossível cozinhar ao som de "Sangam", álbum de 2006 de Charles Lloyd com Zakir Hussain e Eric Harland. Tê-lo a tocar implica necessariamente tantas pausas involuntárias quantos os momentos extasiantes proporcionados, e que se computam em mais de uma hora. Ouvir este disco exige dedicação exclusiva, sob pena de prejudicar irremediavelmente - pela falta de atenção que impõe - tudo o que vai para além da escuta.

E porquê? Porque "The rhythm section sings, squawks, whispers, and cries, and Lloyd, in his grace, plays his ass off while making plenty of room for this rather miraculous interaction." - Jurek, Thom, AMG

Da intemporalidade

Extasiante, no mínimo extasiante, é ouvir o prelúdio da Suite para violoncelo n.º 1, de Bach, pelo Yo-Yo Ma, ao final da tarde, numa sala à média luz, cheia pelo vibrar de cada uma das cordas à passagem do arco virtuoso. Pura estética sonora.

Para quem não é avesso a "pacotes", na Fnac, por Eur 4,95 cada uma, estão as quatro compilações de clássicos da Blue Note, lançadas em 2007, em duplo CD, com uma excelente apresentação, ainda que com pouca informação, muito bem "frequentadas" por nomes que vão de Chet Baker a Jimmy Smith, passando por Kenny Burrell e Horace Silver. São elas "Relaxin' Blue", "Smokin' Blue", "Evenin' Blue" e "Feelin' Blue".
